I finally see it

I finally see my dad in Tilly. I already saw Charlie in my dad, but that is more because she looks so much like Shannon. BUT, after going through old scrapbooks, we found this one of my dad. Crazy! I guess she really is a Thomas!

Two years in the making....

I FINALLY finished the girls quilts for the bunkbeds. I think I bought the fabric about 2 years ago, may be a little less. But, it has taken me long time to get them done. I think I pick quilts that take a long time and a lot of piece work. I love how they turn out, but from about 20%-90% the process is long and I often get bored and work in chunks of time on them. I decided I better start Tilly's quilt now so by the time she is ready for a big girl bed, I will at least be started!

I pieced the tops together, my mom machine quilted them, and I finished the binding. They are basically the same quilts, but they have different backs so we can tell them apart. My mom took some of my scraps and made matching doll quilts for the girls' birthdays. Sadly, I think I like her pattern better than mine now. Oh well, I love them anyway!

They both are the same patterns and the same fabrics

Here you can sort of see the quilting design my mom did (this was my bday gift- quilting them for me!) The back and edges of Chloe's quilt
The back and edges of Charlie's quilt
Two is better than one!
One of the doll quilts my mom made. They were the same on top, but different backs
Looks pretty good on the bed!
Now if only I could finish decorating the room...

The Tooth Fairy Visits

After Chloe lost her tooth, she left it under her pillow. This is what she left Chloe:

(I love this grin!)

A thank you note and some coins for her piggy bank
Only after Chloe went downstairs in the kitchen did she realize the tooth fairy had taken one of her birthday cards, cut it up, and used it on her thank you card.

Way to go tooth fairy! {grumble grumble}

Chloe's Tooth!

Chloe came home from preschool this week and said she had a loose tooth! I couldn't believe it. My first and gut reaction was GROSS! I don't know what it is, but loose teeth are just gross. I get the chills whenever I picture a loose tooth or think about one hanging by the root and pulling it out. Disgusting. This is one rite of passage I was more than willing to pass of to Kevin.
Friday she was eating her lunch and it started to bleed again. She panicked and I had to explain to her that her tooth was supposed to get looser and looser and that it would eventually fall out. She has been back and forth about her tooth falling out these last few days. She is excited, but very nervous.
Today we went to a memorial service for a woman that was in Kevin's stake growing up. She was a wonderful loving woman that raised 7 kids - 5 of which are boys! So the chapel was packed. And, of course, her Andrus cousins were there. Chloe wanted to sit with Jonah and uncle Peter. About half way through the service, Chloe shoves her way down our aisle whispering loudly that her tooth came out! Apparently, every time a new speaker began to talk, Peter would "feel" her tooth. He finally just yanked it! EWWWWW!!!
Per Peter, "She looked at me in horror for a second, but then when I showed her the tooth she got all excited and ran over to you. Hey, we've got good memories to tell around family dinners in 10 years!"
Could he have picked a worse time?! So, I took her in the hall to calm her down and get a drink. She was so excited to have her tooth out and to put it under her pillow. So it is official. She is now a BIG girl. Okay, she already was a big girl, but there is something about losing a tooth that solidifies that. I am just thankful that it wasn't me that had to yank it out. Eww. Gross. I still can't think about it!

March Madness

I think I am going crazy. Or maybe I am just plain burned out. The last few weeks have been very stressful for work and unfortunately, I do bring my work "home." I have been working 25-30 hours every week and it is taking it's toll on me. I don't know what it is. Maybe all the change that is going on. Maybe the weather. Who knows, but if March is anything like February was, I (and my family) am in trouble.

THANKFULLY, my mom swapped a timeshare week and hosted a GWO (girls WEEKEND out)! My sister and 2 sisters in law drove up to Arnold on Friday night to have a quiet weekend away. It was JUST what I needed - complete quiet for 2 days! I unfortunately had to work a little while I was resting up, but I got it done and was able to enjoy a good run, window shopping, games, meals out, and FULL NIGHTS sleep. It was great.

With this under my belt, I am hoping that my battery is fully charged. I am hoping I can chill out and not stress about work or things in my life I can't control. Here's to a March full of peace and NOT madness!

Happy Birthday Chloe

Chloe turns 5!
We are on the "every other year" plan for friend birthday parties. We decided to have the cousins and grandparents over for ice cream and cake on Chloe's birthday. It was a great day for Chloe. She started the day off by going out to breakfast with daddy. Kevin's new schedule prevented him from coming to our little party, so he wanted some daddy daughter time with her. They got a pancake breakfast at IHOP. Then, we had some lil' smokey hot dogs for lunch and homemade pizza for dinner, as reqeusted. Chloe couldn't stop talking about her birthday and how old she was going to be. I can't believe she is such a big girl!
Chloe, you are such a tender heart and we are SO thankful you are in our family.
We love you! Happy 5th Birthday!!
I love that she is shoving Charlie's face away from the cake so she doesn't blow out any of her candles!

My mom got Chloe this doll for Christmas. For her birthday, she got a LOT of doll clothes my mom made, including matching jammies. Now Chloe takes her doll over to my mom's and their two dolls play!

HAPPY BIRHTDAY CHLOE! WE LOVE YOU!!

5k Run

One of my resolutions this year is to FINALLY run my half marathon. With it dark so early here, I haven't been able to run and night and getting up to run is not an option. So, when Kevin started his contract jobs last year, I decided I could finally join the gym. So all of January I was running and working out to get ready for the 5k on 2/19. I had been having knee pains off and on for this whole period (or rather years) and was a little worried. But, the week before the run, I did 3.4 miles without a hitch. I was going to be fine...

BUT, the morning of the race: FREEEEZING!! Seriously. It was 40 degrees and pouring rain for the first half of the race. I ran the race with a friend, Melinda Auble. She totally lapped me. By the end of mile one, my knee was aching. By 1.5, I was in pain. After that, I was walking-jogging-walking. Stopping was not an option. I should have. I was hobbling for DAYS after the run. To say I am/was discouraged by this is an understatement. I made Kevin bring the girls and arrive as I would be finishing the run. He was a great sport because taking all three girls out in the rain was a lot of work! But it was an awesome experience and I am thankful for his support! It was great to see my man and girls as I crossed the finish line.

A friend thinks the issue is my IT band. I have started "rolling" it. We will see if this helps. But, after that race, Kevin started the late shift at work. So, my nights are no longer available. So, for now, my training is on hold. I hope to get an IPod shuffle for my birthday (wink wink) and maybe that will motivate me to go in the morning before he goes to work. But for now, I am okay for resting, but I do hope to get back to training. Running the race was fun and energizing, even if my knee was killing me. I hope to run another soon!

I was literally soaked through. My pants were sliding down my legs. And yes, that is my phone in my sports bra!

This is the last stretch. I started jogging again just before this pic ;)

Valentine's Day

I told Kevin it was my turn to plan V-day this year. Thankfully, I didn't have to try to hard. A few girls (mostly Laura) organized a fun group date for Valentine's day. Laura put together an "Amazing Valentine's Race."
I didn't tell Kevin a lot about the date - just that we would be going with other people. We all met at the stake center. The guys started their hunt and we girls went back to John and Chantalle Bishop's house to get ready... well, hang out and visit.

The Race: First, they all had to put on their shirts that said, "I {heart} my Wifey." (When Kevin realized what the date was he TOTALLY started rolling his eyes. By the end of the night, he admitted he had fun.) The guys had to: spell "love" w/ their bodies and take a pic, go do Wii/Karoake songs (on video), make a card, purchase a gift for the wifey from the Dollar store, and obtain a bouquet of flowers for free, and pick up dinner.

I think all the guys felt like dorks, but I think they finally all got into it. It was a fun night with some great people. Great idea Laura!

He Got the JOB!!!

Finally, after literally 2 MONTHS of interviews and waiting, Kevin got a job. A great job.
It all started in late December. A recruiter found him on LinkedIn. She conducted a phone interview and he passed with flying colors. She wanted Kevin to go in for a personal interview. He did so and did great. So great, in fact, that the recruited called and wanted to see if Kevin was interested in a contract offer (as opposed to starting off permanently). He said yes. And we started to celebrate. A few days later, her assistant called Kev to set up an additional interview - with one of the national reps. Completely stunned and baffled, he said yes. We both thought he had the job. What the recruiter failed to mention in her phone call about the contract was that it wasn't an official offer, but more of a question are you interested in a contract job....if we decide to hire you. Yep. He didn't have the job and there were still other applicants!! Truly disheartening, especially because we told everyone that he had it. So, he went in for the interview that lasted an entire 20 minutes. Kevin wasn't hopeful.
I believe we were both preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best. We fasted before his interview(s) and I felt really calm and at peace about the whole situation. So, when he "got" the job, I was happy. It felt right. Even when the 3rd interview curve ball was thrown, I was anxious, but knew that whatever happened was right.
And to our joy- he got the job! He started 2/21/11 and has been on cloud 9 ever since. We have been praying a long time that he would get a good job that would be right for him and he finally got it. We are both grateful for this blessing and the growth we both received these past two years. We still have yet to have prayer when we haven't thanked Heavenly Father for this new job. Truly, we are blessed and thank you to all of you for your prayers and fasting for our family!

Hello.. anyone there?
