My soap box

I admit it. I am currently watching the "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" series. I love it. Not only are Sully and Matthew still incredibly good looking, but it really is a good clean show. Last night I was watching an episode where the town is voting for a new mayor and Sully helps a captured Indian escape. Of course, Dr. Mike has to save the Indian because he gets shot. She then is put in jail for helping him. In the end, she is released, duh. But, the soldier who lets her out of jail still is ticked off because she broke the law- good intentions or not. He then poses the questions, "What if everyone chose what they thought was right?" Meaning, whether or not you did a good thing, you broke the law. Brian then questions his parents motives and then comes.... the teaching moment. Ahhh... those unforgettable, music slowing, and the lesson comes. Is it me or are there no longer those "teaching" moments on shows? Remember Full House? Family Matters? Every show undoubtedly had a problem and a resolution or lesson that was summed up in the last few minutes with the "lesson" music.

Am I just out of touch? Am I not watching the right shows? Are they still on and I am not watching them? This is the main reason we have gotten rid of cable (again). There aren't any good shows on anymore. Sure, there may be a few on some of the kids channel, but the shows on all the regular channels- trashy.

When I was a kid, I knew of two families that didn't watch TV. One was able to watch movies, but that was it. I thought that was SOOO weird when I was a kid. Surely, there was nothing wrong with the shows on TV. Now, I feel differently. Surely, there is nothing right with the shows today--at least not enough right for me to justify watching it. Like I said, I am sure the kids channels hare enough decent shows, but for the most part cable is lacking.

And there you have it. I have said my peace.

Father's Day

This year for Father's Day we were with the Andrus family. I offered to host becaue I thought Kevin deserved a Father's Day meal that he chose (as opposed to one his Dad did). Every year we rotate for the holidays and I wanted Kevin to feel like this was HIS day, so I mustered up the energy to prepare dinner for his family. Per reqeust, roast beef, gravy potatoes, veggies, and pie. All was delish. I even pulled out our china for the occasion (my 2nd time in 5 years!). No pictures for the day, but I did want to honor Kevin with a little post. So here's to you babe!

Some of the Reasons Kevin is the BEST Dad in the Whole Wide World:

~He has wanted to be a dad for most of his life. He does everything a dad should, could, and wants to do. He is a great play dad.
~He is Mr. Mom, literally. Like it or not, he has had to stay at home for the last year and a half (and who knows how much longer) to rear the youngin's while I bring home the bacon. He has done a MARVELOUS job at taking over as Mom and keeping up the house and the kids. Not many men would step up and do the kind of work it takes to run a house like he has.
~ He is so darn handsome (Yes, this is required to be a good dad).
~ He tells the best bed time stories. Being home so much, he is naturally the first choice for the girls. They always want him to tell the bedtime story and read from the "special" book. As a child he read Shel Silverstein's books and is now passing this love on to them. I love that he wants to share a piece of his childhood with the girls.
~When the girls call him, he goes. Whether in the middle of the night or the afternoon, if the girls call for their daddy- he goes to their rescue.
~He has magic to fix any and all boo boos.
~He sold his XBox because he didn't want the girls remembering him playing video games. He wants to be sure they remember him playing with him.
~He wants more than anything to protect and provide for his little girls.
~He changes dirty diapers for me.
~He will get up in the middle of the night and rock his sick babies.
~He gives Father's blessings without a second thought to it.
~He loves teaching the girls. More often than I think to, Kevin challenges the girls, Chloe especially, into trying something new. He first taught her to write her name and is now teaching her to read.
~He snuggles with all of us in bed in the morning. My favorite time is Saturday and Sunday mornings. The girls hop into bed with us and we all snuggle and pillow talk. Daddy plays sleeping beauty and the girls kiss him to "wake" him up. I love it.
~When he was little he prayed to have little girls when he became a dad. Wish Granted. He is the best dad to his little angels.
~He's just Dad.

Kevin, I love you and you are the Best dad that I could ever hope to have for my children. Happy Father's Day!

GRADUATION!!!

We did it!! We survived college and still love each other! ;) I am so thankful we are finally done with school and we are both eager to move on to a non-student married life. I think I am most eager to have weeknights open. It will be so nice to go out during the week and not have to worry about paying a babysitter! Kevin's last final was on Thursday night and he walked on Friday morning. Wahooo.... it's OVER!!

We are SOO proud of Papa Bear!

That's him walking down to his seat... right in the center
The girls did SOO well for such a LONG commencement
We had to buy our tickets and to make it worse, we were limited to only 5 tickets!
We were so far back the girls didn't actually see "Andrus, Kevin" graduate (yes they said it backwards!!) so I took them to see him after he sat down
By far my favorite picture of the day. Priceless.

My. Girls. Are. Adorable.
See for yourself!

Big Girl

Charlie's hair finally long enough for pigtails! I love it and she looks like such a BIG girl. Darling!

Bye Bye Bottle

We did it! Charlie is officially off the bottle. Phew! We have been waffling back and forth on taking it and giving it back and then taking the pacifer, too. It's just too easy. BUT, after a week straight of a wet bed and pee pee sheets- I was done. So, we let the milk run out and she saw the milk was "ahh gon" and that means no bottle. She did pretty well and is getting better about sleeping and staying in bed without it. As you can see, she tends to sneak out and fight the system... just a little. But, man, isn't she cute?! Next step: taking the pacifier... then potty training!

Tao & Wyatt Arrive

Mothers' Day weekend was quite the event in our family. We had not one, but TWO babies born into the family! My oldest brother, Ron, had his 1st boy and 4th child - Mattao Joseph Thomas (that gives me hope! A boy after 3 girls!!) on May 8th. My baby sister, Shannon, had her 1st baby, Wyatt Thomas Henderson on Mother's Day. What a gift for Shannon! Annie had Tao at home (her 3rd home birth) and Shannon ended up having to go C-section because Wyatt was stinking big! We are VERY happy and excited for the new additions to the family. The boys are catching up with the girls (8-5). Congrats ladies, we love you and your beautiful babies!!

Mattao Joseph Thomas, 5/8/10 9lbs, 10 oz, 22 in. in Moab, UT

Wyatt Thomas Henderson, 5/9/10 9 lbs, 13oz, 20.5 in. in San Ramon, CA
(I was hoping to be able to watch his birth, but he chose otherwise!)
